As we have been working to heal, uplift and reenergize Black members of the community we have again and again turned to discuss one of the greatest sources of renewal, joy and connection with all that exists - nature.
This year's inaugural Weekend on the Water, which will be held on June 17 and 18, is being created in response to the great value we see in building opportunities for Black people and other people of color to engage and explore together in the outdoors. Activities will include camping at Lamoine State Park, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, hiking, fishing and swimming.
We know the historical lack of access to beaches and public pools in this country can't be rectified in a weekend. However, we can give an introductory experience and additional long term opportunities in order to reclaim the connection to water that is part of our heritage.
Whether for the weekend or just a day, we hope you'll join us!
